I had a HUGE day yesterday with lots of flying to clear the predicted weather and a trip down the coast to an unplanned stay in Rockhampton. I took off early from Cairns in pretty good conditions considering the cyclone sitting just 600kms off the coast, for the hour flight to Townsville.

In Townsville I was met by one of my special patients, Chantelle and her Mum BJ. Chantelle had arranged a lovely brunch for me with members of her family including her sister, brother in law and two nieces. We all had a wonderful time and it was great to catch up. Imagine my surprise when Chantelle presented me with one of her “Telle Awards”, I was really touched and honoured to receive such a special gift from such a special young lady. Thank you Chantelle, I shall treasure it always.

All too soon it was time to get back to the airport and take off for my three and a half hour stint to Rockhampton. Conditions were fair for the first hour and a half but the final two hours were spent in the clouds, so no pics unfortunately folks – nothing to see!

I know many of you have been concerned about my safely with the cyclone etc…but please be assured that I am 100% safe and that I have the best people working with me and supporting me with all decisions concerning the weather and my flight plan. I am in good spirits despite a bit of a head cold (which is why I haven’t done a video blog for a couple of days), so I was happy for a quick bite to eat and then straight to bed.

Today I am heading for the Sunshine Coast and Maroochydore!!! These unplanned stops will get me far from the cyclone. My need to move south has prevented a stop into Hervey Bay where I know Andrew Dower, Fraser Coast Tourism and Events had planned some great meetings with community and lovely accommodation at Kondari Hotel. I am sorry your good work won’t come to fruition, but will ensure I say hi if I ever get to your part of the world again.

Thanks everyone, appreciate your care and messages and support, more to come soon.

  1. Dear Andrew,

Wonderful to hear you are safe and travelling well. despite some challenging weather conditions! Enjoy Maroochydore…it’s our favourite holiday destination. make sure you find time for a swim at Maroochydore Beach. The water was 28 degrees Celsius in January! A lot warmer than down in Victoria. See you here in Canberra in 2 days when you visit with Brandon and our family.

Al best wishes on your adventure,

    The Stroud Family
