Well no, I didn’t fly to Mossman, but it was one of the most memorable days of my journey! Courtesy of Fly for the Kids’ sponsors Spotless, I was picked up in Cairns and driven to beautiful Mossman where I had an amazing time with a very special patient of mine, Lauren, and the students and staff of her school, St Augustine’s Primary School.
Her special school community decided to have a major paper plane ‘fly off’ whilst I was there, raising $460 for Fly for the Kids, a SUPER effort from a SUPER group of kids and their teachers – THANKS SO MUCH GUYS!!! I’ve included lots of fun pics from this unforgettable day, so you can see just how much I enjoyed every moment, especially my time with the kids, who had lots of questions about my trip and my job at the RCH. They were also very interested to know if there was any hair on the floor of the mobile hair salon bus that I stayed in Borroloola, they seemed fascinated by thIs, it did make me laugh!
Today (Saturday), I am leaving Cairns contemplating the best course of action with some pretty ugly weather set to come in over northern Queensland during the weekend. My plan is to fly to Townsville, where I have another special patient, Chantelle, waiting for me and then on to Rockhampton for the night. Sunday I plan to get to Maroochydore, then down to Port Macquarie on Monday.
As you can guess, all decisions continue to be made on a day-by-day basis, so keep checking the flight tracker and this blog for updates.
