Welcome to my first Fly for the Kids blog! I was so excited to launch Fly for the Kids at The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) last month. We were joined by The Hon Jill Hennessy, Minister for Health, Professor Christine Kilpatrick, CEO of the RCH, the Good Friday Appeal, our sponsors and staff from across the hospital. It was great to see so many friendly faces come together to wish me well on my solo circumnavigation of Australia in March 2017. As I said at the launch, this journey is really about the patients at the hospital and the struggles they face every day. I’m raising funds for the Complex Movement Disorder Program which will improve the lives of children and young people with conditions affecting their movement.
I have been at the RCH for about thirty years. In fact I have been lucky enough to have all my career here. During this time I have seen so many amazing things, it’s great that one of the world’s leading paediatric hospitals is right here in Melbourne. What stay with me the most though is the daily inspiration I get from my patients. I wanted to help them by bringing my two passions together, looking after children and flying, to spearhead a fundraising effort to raise money for the Complex Movement Disorder Program.
My first lessons as a pilot were back in my Uni days. About seven or so years ago I started to retrain as a pilot and I have been a private pilot ever since.
We all know that giving can change lives so please join me on this trip to make a difference. Let’s fly around Australia, raise some money and make it Fly for the Kids.
